Portfolio: Public FacilitiesIn January of 2001, I was asked to lead the architectural program for my current organization. Prior to 2001, the architects served primarily in a support role for an industrial building group. With the inception of a new Architecture and Planning division, I was able to lead a group of professionals to market public sector facilities, specializing in justice/corrections and recreation/community centers. The links below direct you to a sampling of the most recent projects that I have served as principal-in-charge or project manager. The bulk of my work was in the recreation center planning and design field (highlighted in the “Parks and Recreation” section), but I have taken advantage of this new challenge to spread the wings of our architectural practice in many different building types. Affordable Housing
HOPE VI Projects (Nashville, TN) – Led the planning and
architectural design teams in the conceptualizing, design and
construction of three affordable housing neighborhoods in
Nashville, TN. Each project involved the demolition of an
existing public housing project and the design and development
of a new, neo-traditional community consisting of mixed building
types (row townhomes, stacked flats and single family) and other
neighborhood amenities (parks, community buildings, etc.).
Efforts combined to create over 1,000 affordable housing units
with a total construction value of over $80 million Community Revitalization and Affordable Housing for Tennessee Housing Development Corporation (Jackson, TN) – Commissioned by THDC to lead a multidisciplinary team to redevelop the East Jackson area that was destroyed by the 2004 tornado. Redevelopment plans led to the securing of $12 million from HUD and a partnership with the City to develop two new neighborhoods. Three phase implementation program is underway with over 250 units being rehabilitated or developed in the area. Total project value = $15 million Justice/CorrectionsHistoric Restoration of Davidson County Courthouse and New Public Square (Nashville, TN) – Served as Principal-in-Charge (courthouse) and Project Manager for the Public Square.
